Today on BSport he was having a go about Dan Carter not playing enough.
His main bone of contention was that Carter has played less than 1000 minutes of rugby during this season's Super 14, which is apparently very little in comparison to top players in other sports.
Newsflash Craig. The Crusaders played 15 matches this year, including the semi and final. If he were to have played every single minute of every single game, that's 1200 minutes. Adding on the 3 pre-season matches, that's 1440.
But let me take you back, to a match between the Hurricanes and Crusaders, held at Westpac Stadium. Remember that? Remember Carter getting injured? This Herald article says it happened on March 28, while this one is shortly before his return.
So March 28 - May 5 = 5 games. 5x80=400. 1200-400=800. Plus the pre-season match against the Waratahs [he missed the first two due to injury] = 880.
Do some research before you go and try and drum up a lynch mob, Craig. While you were right about him playing less than 1000 minutes, you simply cannot claim this was his decision.

Mate are you an All Blacks fan or a french apologist...
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased someone in the position of Stanaway has finally said what many of my mates have been saying over a cold one. Why couldn't people like Wynne Gray or Hamish McKay who are so called rugby journos?
Carter has signed a deal with a french club and has missed the whole of the Air NZ Cup. A competition good enough for the All Blacks captain to play in. Is the NZRU trying to get the most out of their star player or are they wrapping him up in cotton wool so that he'll be fresh for the Heineken Cup. All Black fans are getting ripped off paying a premium for tickets and then seeing the likes of Stephen Donald playing at 10 when the best player in the world is fit but is not playing. Total joke. And do the All Black selectors genuinely care about world rugby? In 2006 the All Whites played Brazil in soccer and all their stars played. How would we have felt if they'd benched Ronaldo and Ronaldinhio. Or how would we feel if the Aussie cricketers benched Warnie or McGrath for a test match against the Black Caps. It would never happen. I wish more journos would highlight this and put some pressure on our arrogant selectors
I think you're the idiot Naly... Are you Dan Carter's mum or Steve Tew's PA?
ReplyDeleteNo where in that interview did he say "it was Carter's decision"
You have to be a Sheep shagging Cantab. Don't go on the defensive just because someone is critical with facts to back up an argument. But he's talking out or his arse thinking the ABs will win by 25+. It will be an interesting listen next week

ReplyDeleteIt's quite obvious what the NZRU and Carter are doing. The NZRU are preventing Carter from getting injured as no doubt they will be receiving a cut of his pay packet for Perpignan.

I agree, but if he had played in the AirNZ Cup, then headed to France, how would Slade have gotten the experience he has from playing AirNZ Cup, which he will need for S14?

I'm from Wellington, born and raised. I have never supported Canterbury :)
Thank you for the input guys, but I think you've read this wrong. It was more a commentary on Stanaway's constant lack of research than defending Carter. I agree with Stanaway.
Pretty tough to call him an idiot when he correctly predicted the All Blacks would win by 25 plus points. Quite impressive.
